Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother (Gigi), sister, and aunt, Bessie C. Pine, went home to our heavenly father on June 12, 2012. Bessie was born in Lake Valley on May 10, 1934. She was Nihoobani, born for Tse na bilnii.
She is survived by her husband, Lee Pine; her sons, Leonard, Lawrence and Louis (Brenette), and her daughters, Phyllis, Pandora (Arley), and Glendora. She has twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her surviving siblings include Norman Benally, Alta Dodge, Jimmie Pablo, Alice Padilla and Susie Juan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Mae Beyale Chischilly, sons, Richard Pine and Philbert Pine, brothers, Jerry Chischilly, Milton Chischilly, Perry Benally, Tom Montoya, and sister, Sarah Charley.
Her first job was with Fairchild Semi-Conductor Inc., in the early 1970s. She also worked at as a cook at several places such as ECHO Preschool, Nenahnezad Boarding School, and Four Winds Alcohol Rehabilitation Center in Farmington. She retired from Four Winds after 18 years.
She was known for her cooking and sweet personality by the staff and former clients. She spoke to many clients, who sought out traditional or motherly advice.
She made many friends, who continue to cherish the teachings and advice she has given them.
Bessie was a spiritual person and member of the Native American Church. She rose every morning before 5 am to give her blessings for her family and relatives. She was known for her Navajo teachings and sense of humor.
She enjoyed cooking for others, rug weaving, beading beads.
Bessie was admired by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center, 10 County Road 6523, off U.S. Highway 64 in Kirtland.
She will be laid to rest in the family cemetery in Chaco Canyon.
Donations can be made to Kirtland Cope Memorial Chapel.
A reception will follow at the family home in Chaco.
