Mrs. Alice M. Baker, 63, of Beechersville, near Arendtsville, who was critically injured at 5:30 o'clock Friday morning, when an automobile driven by her grandson backed over her,
died Sunday night at 10:30 o'clock at the Warner Hospital, where she had been removed after the accident.
Dr. C.G. Crist, Adams County Coroner, who with State Policeman George J. Evanko is conducting the investigation said today there will be no inquest. State police, who investigated the accident said that Mrs. Baker's grandson, Robert R. Hartzell, 20, also of Beecehrsville, who is employed at Gettier's Bakery in Biglerville, went out to start his car to go to work early Friday morning. The car failed to start & Mrs. Baker came out to assist Hartzell in pushing the car.
Wheel Passed Over Her Body Hartzell, police said, jumped into the car when it started & threw the gears into reverse. Mrs. Baker, who was at the rear of the car, was knocked down and a wheel passed over her body. She suffered a crushed chest & internal injuries.
A native of Adams County, she was a daughter of the late William & Hannah E. (Warren) Wingert. She was a member of the Reformed Church at Arendtsville. Her husband, the late Edward W. Baker, died in 1943.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Dorothy Hartzell of Gettysburg; Mrs. Paul Bolen of Biglerville RD; Glenn Baker & Charles Baker, both at home, 7 grandchildren also survive as do the following brothers & sisters, John Wingert of Aspers; Mrs. ida New of Silver Springs, NY; Charles Wingert of NY; Mrs. Scott Kerr of Anaheim, Calif.; Samuel Wingert of Biglerville RD; & Mrs. Lloyd Baker of Orrtanna.
Funeral servcies Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Bender Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Nevin Frantz officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Arendtsville
