Wallace Byrne, 86, of Lafayette, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2011, at Creasy Springs Health Campus.

He was born July 4, 1925, in Byrneville, and was the son of the late Wallace and Helen Fouts Byrne. He graduated from Orange High School and Butler University in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in accounting.

On Dec. 25, 1949, he married Ruth Gansert in Connersville, and she survives.

Mr. Byrne retired as business manager at Ivy Tech Community College.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed watching birds and gardening. He had served as a Seabee in the Navy.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Karen Carroll of Lafayette; two sons, James Byrne (wife: Adele) of Queen Creek, Ariz., and Thomas Byrne of Lafayette.

Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Thomas Carroll (wife: Faye), Tonya Simmons (husband: C.J.), Jason and Brian Byrne and Lori Dumas (husband: Robbie) and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Byrne.

Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at noon Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd., Lafayette, IN 47909, the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Meadow View Cemetery.
