Frances Forth Anderson, a longtime resident of Gainesville, died Tuesday at the Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers following a lingering illness. She was 83.

Mrs. Anderson was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and moved to Gainesville from Punta Gorda.

She taught business education first at Newberry High School and later at Gainesville High School for more than 20 years.

She received her bachelor's degree in business education from Florida State College for Women, now Florida State University, in Tallahassee. She later received her master's degree in business education from the University of Florida.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank N. Anderson.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Beatty of Atlanta, Paige Newsome of Fort Myers and Frances Gail Zyvoloski of Cumming, Ga.; a son, Frank N. Anderson Jr. of Orlando; a sister, Mary Helen Dickinson of Jacksonville Beach; a brother, Frank Forth of Cordele, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hope Hospice of Fort Myers.
