James F. Austin, 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Eden Spring Nursing Home in Crawfordville. He was born and raised in Blountstown and graduated from Blountstown High School. He was a lifelong resident of Woodville. He served in the U. S. Navy for four years. After discharge from the Navy, he began his career with Leon County and worked for over 35 years, retiring in 2006 as Crew Chief with the Public Works Department.

He was preceded in death by his father, R. C. Austin and an infant brother.

He is survived by a daughter, Sherry Austin of Orlando; his mother, Gladys Austin of Blountstown; a sister, Jane Chafin and husband, Jim of Marianna; two brothers, John and his wife, Sharon of Blountstown and Ralph and his wife, Sherri of Lake Talquin. He is also survived by Sharon Austin, former wife of 40 years, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date with burial in Cottonwood, AL.
