CLEAR LAKE - Amanda Spalding, 90, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 2003) in Lake City, Minn.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Rev. Dean Hess will be officiating.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., preceding the service. Interment will be at 3:30 p.m. at the Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Wanda, Minn.

Amanda was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Wanda, Minn., to Max and Elsie (Holznagel) Darkow. She attended Mankato School of Beauty in Mankato.

On May 15, 1937, she married Paul A. Spalding. They resided in Wanda, Minn., Pomeroy, Iowa, and Clear Lake. She moved to Lake City, Minn., in 1995. Amanda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

She is survived by a son, Nyle Spalding and his wife, Barbara, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Maxyne Gillice and her husband, Robert, Arvada, Colo., and Paulette Clare and her husband, Arnie, Reads Landing, Minn.; two granddaughters, Amy McCormick and her husband, Mike, Boulder, Colo., and Sara Miller and her husband, Dan, Naperville, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Ava Claire Miller; one sister, Rosemary Bloedow, Redwood Falls, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; and one sister, Irene Bergston.
