Edwin was an alumnus (1938) of Michigan State College, with a degree in Horticulture. After graduating, he joined his father at Chesaning Floral Company. Ed served in the Pacific Theatre during W.W. ll in New Caledonia. In 1950, he took over the greenhouses and shop, renaming the business Adams' Flowers. Edwin sold the business in 1961, later working at Universal Electric and Day Camera Shop in Owosso.
Edwin was an excellent photographer and member of several camera clubs. He and his wife took several photographic tours. They traveled to Canada, England, Europe, South America, Hawaii, Alaska and many other states. Edwin presented monthly travelogues at the Chesaning Senior Center for a number of years.
In 1974, he and his wife started a home business named D and E's Violets. Ed became an African violet judge and was active in the African Violet Society of America, the African Violet Society of Canada, Saintpaulia International, The Michigan State African Violet Society and the Indiana State Violet Society. The family home was enhanced by his many plantings, including a collection of daylillies, some of which will be replanted at Trinity United Methodist Church.
Edwin was a 78 year member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Chesaning. He served a church treasurer, choir member, member of the building committee, and a youth advisor. He was active in the Chesaning Area Arts Association, the Chesaning Historical Society and Chesaning Area Emergency Relief. He played in the Saginaw Symphony, the Germania Symphony and the Lansing Civic Orchestra. He attended Interlochen National Music Camp the summer of 1932, studying violin.
Mr. Adams, a lifelong resident of Chesaning, died April 22, 2006, at Oliver Woods Retirement Village, in Owosso, where he spent the last months of his life. He was 89.
Survivors included his wife Dorothy; three daughters, Beatrice Bard (Charles) of Maumee, Ohio; Janet Rinker (Kenneth) of Craig, Colorado; and Wilma Rojas of Chesaning, as well as three grandchildren, Arthur Rinker, Janine Rinker, both of Craig, Colorado. and Brian Rojas of Owosso. He was predeceased by a brother, Arthur Adams.
