Mr. Cornelius Ackersook was born in The Netherlands June 27, 1825, and died at his home in Hamilton, April 19th, 1917. He was a veteran of the Civil War and one of the oldest pioneers in Allegan County. Mr. Ackersook's health had been very poor for the last year, and the last few months of life brought him much suffering. He is survived by his aged wife and three children, Mrs. John Kolvoord, Sr., of Hamilton, Mrs. F.C. Billings of South Haven, and Mr. Paul Ackersook of Fremont. The funeral service was held at the American Reformed Church of Hamilton, Monday, April 23. Rev. R.D. Meengs officiation. Interment was made in the Hamilton cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. F.C. Billings of South Haven, Mr. Paul Ackersook of Fremont, Miss Florence Kolvoord of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Klomparens of Coopersville, Mr. Bert Kolvoord and son Leon, of Allegan, Messers Bert, Frank and Eldon Cobb of Douglas, Mrs. R. Hunderman, Mr. and Mrs. R. VanDam and Mr. N. Hunderman of Drenthe.

His first wife appears to have been Klaartje "Clara" Broekman. She was alive in 1850 and resided with him in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI that year.
