Married to Emma E Eastham on April 30, 1895. Besides his parents, two of his four brothers are buried in the Waring Cemetery, Garrison, Lewis County, Kentucky.

The other two Bagby memorials in the Greene Cemetery are those of Jeanette Irene English Bagby, Walter's daughter-in-law - wife of his son Paul; and Robert W Bagby, Walter's grandson by Paul and Jeanette.

The Portsmouth Times on August 4, 1941, ran the following obituary: "Walter Bagby, 73, of 717 Court street, grocer here for more than 40 years and known throughout the city and county because of his religious activities, died at 5 p. m. Sunday at his home. Mr. Bagby was injured in an accident two years ago and never had recovered fully. His condition had been serious the last month. Mr. Bagby operated a grocery store at Gallia and John streets and remained active in the business up until the time of his recent illness. He was a man of strong religious tendency and although he was not an ordained minister, he preached in the city and county. He had served as an elder of First Christian church for 40 years, and two years ago the church honored him by electing him an elder emeritus. Mr. Bagby was an active member of the church. Mr. Bagby was born Sept. 21, 1867, at South Portsmouth, a son of William and Mahala Bruce Bagby. He was married on April 30, 1895, to Emma Eastham. Surviving are his wife, a son, Paul T. Bagby at home; two grandchildren, Doris Jean and Ruth Pauline Bagby, and a brother, Arthur Bagby, 112 Gay street. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the St. Paul Methodist church, with Rev. Crayton S. Brooks of Sciotoville Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul cemetery under the direction of Morton. The body will be at the residence until noon Tuesday."
