Death: Jun. 21, 1946

Cyril C Alcindor, who is commemorated on the Canvey Island Roll of Honour for WWII, was born in Paddington in 1914 ( Mar Qtr. 1a Page 116) though the surname is incorrectly shown as Alcinder. A brother, John Francis Alcindor was born in 1912, also in Paddington (Dec Qtr. 1a Page 93). In both cases their mother's maiden surname was shown as Martin. She was Minnie A C Martin, married to John Alcindor. On the 1911 census he lived at 31 Talbot Road, Paddington, unmarried at this time, aged 37. He was described as a Medical Practitioner, Trinidad, British West Indies-Resident.
John Alcindor and his wife are buried at St Katherine's, Canvey Island. There was another brother,Roland Patrick Boyce Alcindor; he died in 1991-burial place as yet unknown.
Cyril is shown on the memorial as a Captain in the Beds. and Herts. Regiment, but he does not appear on the list of official war dead. He was a soldier from the 1930's and took part in the invasion of France in 1944.

The Army List April 1945 page 1596 noted he was a 2nd Lieutenant, appointed 24 March 1944, in the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. After the war, as a Captain, he was one of the two officers who interviewed new National Servicemen to see where the regiment could usefully place them.

He died aged 32 in 1946 in London Hospital, Whitechapel-death registered in Stepney, 5d Page 390. He was laid to rest with his father.
He was described as Captain, Service No.312947 Bedfordshire Regiment-a regular soldier.
Cause of death: Natural-Pneumonia associated with Encephalitis of epidemic type. Death certified after inquest 1st July.
