Sarah A. Ackley
Sarah A. Ackley, 89, of Hutchinson, died Jan. 10, 2000, at Hutchinson Hospital.

She was born July 25, 1910, at Byron, Okla., the daughter of William and Olive Ruth Littlefield Whitehead. She graduated
from Burlington (Okla.) High School and Northwester Oklahoma State University, Alva, Okla. A Hutchinson resident since
1975, formerly of Ulysses, she was a retired schoolteacher, having taught in one-room schools in Alfalfa County, Okla. She later taught fourth grade in Ulysses, for 15 years.

She belonged to Park Place Christian Church and was a former church librarian and member of the Christian Women's
Fellowship at First Christian Church, both at Hutchinson, and belonged to Delta Kappa Gamma, the KNEA, NEA, and the
Wing Family of America Inc.

She married Clyde E. Ackley at Medicine Lodge. He died Dec. 22, 1971.

Survivors include; a son, Billy R., Hutchinson; two daughters, Ruth A. Kirby, Hutchinson, and Irma Elliott, Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Esco, Arthur and Elbert Whitehead; and five sisters, Irma Buckles, Lillian Reynolds, Pauline Curran, Susan McWilliams and Olive Totton.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, Hutchinson, with Dr. Lewis
McPherren presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m. today, both at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Cherokee (Okla.) Municipal Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Sarah Whitehead Ackley Memorial Scholarship Fund at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, in care of the funeral home
