Carlos G. Abeyta, age 88 of Miami, Ariz., passed away on June 8, 2013, with family surrounding him. Carlos was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.
He was born in Abiquiu, N.M. on June 25, 1924, to parents José Leon and Bernardita Abeyta.
Carlos proudly served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, where he served on the battlegrounds in World War II in the European arena.
After the war, Carlos worked in Arizona as a copper miner for over 40 years. Carlos had a passion to preach and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served as a bi-vocational pastor at the Spanish Southern Baptist Mission in Miami.
He completed the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Extension Course, the first Hispanic in the state of Arizona to complete such a task. He served as a Chaplain for the Gila County Sheriff's Office.
Carlos is survived by his wife of 64 years, Conchita Abeyta of Miami, Ariz.; five children, Aurora Otero (Robert) of Miami, Carlos Abeyta, Jr. (Teresa) of Bothell, Wash., Stella Simental (Juan) of Oakley, Calif., Manuel Abeyta (Lorie) of Miami, and Priscilla Cox (Richard) of Marysville, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Cleo Calistro of Flagstaff, Ariz., Bernardita Abeyta of Columbus, Ohio, Margret Serna of Phoenix Ariz., and Josie Trujillo (Mike) of Espanola, N.M.; aunt Sabrina Abeyta of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family will come together June 12, 2013, to remember, honor and celebrate his life at the First Southern Baptist Church in Miami. Visitation is at 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m.
His final resting place will be at Pinal Cemetery.
