Birth: unknown
Death: unknown

Egyptian Monarch. Born Tausret Setepenmut daughter of Merneptah and Takhat. She married Seti II and held the title King's Great Wife. With Seti's death, she served as regent to his heir Siptah. When Siptah died in his sixth year as pharaoh, Tausret assumed the role of a pharaoh, taking the title Lady of the Two Lands and Mistress of Upper and Lower Egypt, and ruled Egypt for another two years, from about 1188 to1186 BC. Her reign ended in civil strife and she was deposed by Setnakhte. She was the last rular of the 19th dynasty. Although laid in her tomb in the Valley of the Kings, now designated KV14, her resting place was usurped by Setnakht, her sarcophagus reused by Prince Amenherkhepeshef, and her mummy lost. It has been suggested that the mummy designated Unknown Woman D in the KV35 mummy cache which was discovered in 1898 might be hers. (bio by: Iola)
