David Ray Bailey, age 76, of Jasper, FL. passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, FL. following an extended illness.
Mr. Bailey was a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan born October 7, 1940 to the late Willis and Evelyn Bailey. He moved to the Jasper area from Tampa, FL. in April of 2004. As a young man he joined the Coast Guard and served in the United States Army. Bailey was an evangelist and had a deep desire to reach out and teach people about the Lord. He was a generous giver not only financially but also of his talent and time. He worked with young pastors in an effort to lift them up and support their desire to be leaders in their communities and beyond. In addition to being an evangelist, Mr. Bailey worked as an environmental analyst for the State of Mississippi until August of 1996 when he finally retired. He believed in service and so he joined a number of charitable organizations over the years that had a reputation for giving back to the community. He was a member of the Shrine, he was a Mason and was a member of the American Legion to name a few. Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Theresa Oberland Bailey and a son, Matthew Bailey, both of Jasper, FL.; his half-brother, Fred of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Corinth Baptist Church near Jasper, FL. with Pastor Gary Abbott officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 between the hours of 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.
