Roy E. Annis, 88, a lifelong resident of Pembroke, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness on May 17, 2013 at Pleasant View Center in Concord surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Hooksett on January 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Edwin Annis and Myrtle (Heselton) Annis of Pembroke.

He graduated from Portsmouth High School before enlisting to serve in WWII with the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific with Easy Company's second platoon, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star among many other recognitions.

He spent nearly 35 years at the Suncook Post Office, serving as rural mail carrier, postal clerk, as well as interim postmaster.

He was a member of the Pembroke Board of Selectmen, the Pembroke School Board, the Pembroke Planning Board and the Pembroke Budget Committee and a long-standing member of Mason's Jewell Lodge #94 as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion.

A loving husband and father, he was actively involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives. He will be remembered for his unconditional love of family, his compassion for others, his sense of honesty and fairness, and his love of country.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Edith Argereow of Portsmouth and Pearl Stewart of Maine, as well as two brothers, Floyd Annis of Epping and Paul "Tage" Annis of Pembroke.

Burial at Evergreen Cemetery on Buck Street.
