He graduated from Pinconning High School in 1952 then began working at Magline Incorporated as a Draftsman and was soon promoted to Quality Control Manager.
In addition to his full-time work, Ron served his community for more than ten years as an EMT with the Arenac County Volunteer Ambulance and proudly served as a Red Cross aid to the military, acting as a liaison to connect families and service members in times of crisis. Thirty-five years after joining Magline, Ron left to begin eight years of service with the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department as a corrections officer, retiring in 1996.
Upon retirement, Ron enjoyed several winters at their second home in Florida, where he kept his promise to Dorothy that she would someday walk the beach. Ron was the consummate outdoorsman: an avid hunter; fisherman; camper; snowmobiler; and woodcarver. His skills were observed by family, friends, and colleagues alike, as exemplified when Ron’s “Bald Eagle in Flight” woodcarving was recognized and awarded at the Frankenmuth Wood Carving Show.
A superb handyman, he applied his Skills through activities ranging from building their home to repairing a snowmobile in the middle of the dark woods, his only quirk was that he wouldn't touch a television set.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his wife of 63 years, Dorothy; his children, Tracey (Dennis) Charchan, Ronald (Lori) Almy, Cynthia (Isaac) Ragusa; his brother James Almy; nine grandchildren; and several great grandchildren.
Mr. Almy was preceded in death by his mother, Emily, his brother, Leonard, and his beloved son, Todd. Per his wishes, there will be no formal services. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be interred in the family plot in the Sterling Cemetery.
Anyone desiring to honor Ron’s life may donate to: USO Dept WS, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077; or the Good Samaritan Reserve Mission, 713 9th Street, Bay City, MI 48708.
The family expresses heartfelt thanks to Standish St. Mary’s of Michigan hospital and rehabilitation services and Compassas Hospice for the compassionate care they supplied Ron and his family as Ron concluded a legacy of family, friends, and achievement.
