The son of John H. and Lydia (Washburn) Adams.
Husband of Isabella Maria Banks, who he married at Dorchester, MA on Aug. 9, 1854. They were the parents of William, B. born July 29, 1855; Sarah Carroline Bannister, born Feb. 15, 1857; John Francis, born Sept. 18, 1858; and Elias Washburn, born Jan. 27, 1860.
Elias was a 26 year-old Carpenter from Duxbury, MA, when he enlisted at Dedham, MA on April 19, 1861 and was mustered into the 18th Mass. Infantry on August 24, 1861 as a Private in Co. F. Wounded in the left eye at Second Bull Run on August 30, 1862, he was taken as a Prisoner of War, but paroled at Groveton Battlefield on Sept. 2, 1862. He was subsequently discharged due to his wounds at Ebenezer Hospital, Washington, DC on Sept. 18, 1862.
Following his military service he was employed in cotton mills. He died at the Soldier's Home in Chelsea, MA.
