Miss Evaleen Sarah Belden, a life long resident and a pioneer school teacher of Caledonia, passed away at a Rochester hospital on Sunday, January 7th, at the age of 84 years.

Miss Belden was born in Caledonia on September 24th, 1856, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Belden. After attending school she graduated from the Caledonia Academy. She taught in the public schools at Albert Lea, the public schools of Caledonia and in the preparatory department of the Caledonia Academy, which was conducted by her brother, the late W. D. Belden. Later she became a registered assistant pharmacist and was employed in the Belden Drug Store [at Caledonia] for many years. [See also the 1895 Minn. State Census, Houston Co., Caledonia, p. 1, microfilm].

Miss Belden took a keen interest in political, social, and religious matters and managed her own affairs until two years before her death.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Potter Funeral Home. The Rev. H. W. Hynes officiated at the service. Burial was made in Evergreen Cemetery.

Eveleen survived her entire family, including her parents, and her brother, William D. Belden.
