LAPORTE - Roger LeRoy Allison, age 80, of Milton, WI, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at the Golden Living Center, located in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin. He was born on July 28, 1931, in LaPorte County, Indiana, to Frank and Ruth (Schoof) Allison. He attended Union Township School and later Kingsbury High School where he graduated in 1949. Roger was married on May 6, 1951, to Marilyn (Houston) Allison at St. John's Lutheran Church, LaPorte, Indiana. He is survived by Marilyn his wife, and three children, Kathy (Arild) Mellembakken of Franklin, Arkansas, Patrick (Mary) Allison of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Sandra (Rich) Slatter of Milton, Wisconsin. Surviving are his grandchildren, Chad (Kim) Mellembakken and Travis Mellembakken, Sean and Christian Allison, Brandon Knudtson and Allison Slatter, Barbara Mellembakken; and a great-granddaughter, Amanda Mellembakken. Also surviving are the following: Aunt Bertha Schoof; two brothers, Don (Jeanette) Allison and Terry Allison; two sisters, Audrey Huffman and Diane Tuholski; three sisters-in-law, Nora Ford, Patricia Kellems and Esther Houston; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and an infant sister, Barbara. Roger served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Sgt. 1st Class in the 45th Thunderbird Division from August 1952 to August 1954. After graduation from high school and his military service, Roger took college courses in Agriculture, Welding and Diesel Engines. He was employed at Allis Chalmers prior to his military service and then changed careers to farming after his return from the Korean Conflict where he farmed near Wanatah, Indiana, until 1964. Roger and Marilyn then purchased a farm near Eleva, Wisconsin, where they remained until Roger retired from farming in 1993. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Norden, Mondovi, Wisconsin. Roger was active in the 4-H organization and had been a coach and 4-H leader in Eau Claire County, Wisconsin, for many years. He was Treasurer of the LaPorte County Farm Bureau, a member of the Trempealeau County Farm Bureau, NRA, the American Legion, VFW and Disabled Veterans, and served on the Eleva-Strum School Board for 13 years. Roger enjoyed playing cards and Dominos, being involved with the 4-H organization, hunting, fishing, camping and vacationing with his family. He took pleasure in spending time with his family and many friends as well as watching his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments. His family was very thankful and appreciative for the great work of the Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital Organ Donation program, as Roger had been a recipient of a heart transplant from this program in 1994. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the following: Voluntary Service - Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital and mailed to Courtney Steinhafel, Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital - Stop 122, 2500 Overlook Terrace, Madison, WI 53705. Donations will go to support the veterans' families who need assistance with travel and transition costs associated with organ transplants done at Wm. S. Middleton Veterans Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, LaPorte, IN, with Rev. Ronald A. Brauer officiating. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at ST. JOHN LUTHERAN CHURCH, LaPorte. Interment will be at Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, IN, with full military honors.
