GIBSON CITY - (PNS) - Mrs. Dell (Freda) Allen, 37, of rural Anchor was dead on arrival at Gibson Community Hospital at 8:40 p.m.

She had been shot in the right temple with a .22 caliber rifle.

Mrs. Allen's husband told Ford County Coroner Frank Hunt III that his wife went into the bathroom of their farm house carrying the rifle and locked the door. A few minutes later he heard a gun shot.

He kicked in the door to find his wife on the floor.

A Gibson City ambulance was called. She died en route to the hospital.

A coroner's jury ruled Sunday night that she had taken her own life.

She was taken to the Lamb Funeral Home. Arrangements are incomplete.

She was born Sept. 15, 1923, at Clinton, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gaultney. She was married to Del Allen June 29, 1940 at Clayton, Mo. She was a Le Roy resident before moving to the farm near Anchor 15 years ago.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters; Mrs. Pricella Lewis, Chicago; Dorothy Jean, at home; a son, David, at home; her father, William Gaultney, Le Roy; two sisters, Mrs. Georgia Denny, Farmer City; Mrs. LaVerne Craig, Le Roy; and a brother, Robert 903 W. Front, Bloomington.
