Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the town of Waupun until 1959. John was employed by Carnation Company (N/K/A Silgan Containers) from 1959 until retiring in 1988. John was a co-owner of Helen's Kitchen from 1977 to 1986 and continued to be the "handy man" behind the scenes.
When he was a member of First Reformed Church, John served as an elder, deacon, and also taught Sunday school. John was a hospice volunteer for seven years, as well as a member of Edgewood Community Church in Waupun. John and Helen enjoyed wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama for 12 years; and in Tucson, Arizona for two years.
John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Aalpoel of Waupun; three daughters, Marilyn (Mike) Ford of Waupun, Dianne (Mark) Hendricks of Waupun, and Lori (Mitch) Woock of Waunakee; eight grandchildren, Chad Ford (fianc?e, Noelle Bensley), Melanie (Erick) Gerritson, Jennifer (Jon) Scheuers, Heath (Marcelle) Hendricks, and Jared, Adam, Zachary and Noah Woock; 10 great-grandchildren, Lucas, Alec, Kade, Brady, Cassie, Alex, Ethan, Ellise, Luke and Jasmine; one great-great-grandson, Damien; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.John was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward Aalpoel; and two sisters, Henrietta Schouten and Johanna Aalpoel.
Funeral services for John Aalpoel will be held Friday, July 15, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at Edgewood Community Church in Waupun, with the Rev. Roger Knowlton officiating.Burial will follow at Forest Mound Cemetery in Waupun.
