Charlie Bailey, 59, of Lakeland, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Lanier County, Georgia to the late Wilbur and Alberta Downing Bailey.

He worked with the Lanier County Sheriff's Department for 15 years in many areas but primarily as a dispatcher and jailor. He later worked with the Nashville Police Department as a dispatcher and retired due to health.

He loved the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Jones and Linda Browning and three brothers, Raymond Bailey, Wilbur Bailey, and Jimmy Bailey.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Mickey Bailey, Lakeland, Ga.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Tom Fischer, Lakeland, Ga., Amanda and Mark Losser, Willacoochee, Ga., Maggie Bailey, Lakeland, Ga.; six sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Bailey, Valdosta, David and Denise Bailey, Lakeland, Mark Bailey, Maine, Charles R. and Emma Bailey, Jr., Lakeland, John and Mandy Bailey, Lakeland, Chris Bailey, Lakeland; 34 grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Dent, Lakeland, Libby Browning, Lakeland, Margaret and Tim Brogdon, Valdosta, Vickie and Tracy Shiver, Lakeland; mother-in-law, Alice Knowles, St. Mark, Fla.; brother-in-law, William Browning, Lakeland; sister-in-law, Marcie Bailey, Valdosta; b friends, William Gilyard, Lakeland, Donnie Cornelison, Ala., Clyde Brogdon, Lakeland; a number of nieces and nephews.
