Prior to retiring in 1980 he was employed by the former Bundy Tubing,Hometown,Tamaqua R2 as a machinist.
Born in Lansford,he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Svetz) Benek.
A veteran of World War 11,he served in the U.S Army's 23rd Regiment, 2nd Infantry earning a Purple Heart,Brontz Star,an Arrow Head and three Battle Stars during campaigns in Ireland and France.He was a 60 year member of the Summit Hill American Legion Post.
Survivors: Wife,daughter Barbara Sommers,sons,Louis J,Richard and his wife Rita all of Summit Hill,sister Mary Toth of Virginia,brothers Michael in N.C.,Al,in N.J., Frank in N.Y, and Joseph in Bath, 8 grandchildren,4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by sisters Betty and Anna,brothers John and Stephen.
