Rose Bordonaro, 88, of 118 E. Meyer Ave. died the afternoon of June 16, 2009, in New Castle. She was born in Grove City on Oct. 25, 1920, to the late Robert and Antonetta Carlo Demofonte.

She married James Bordonaro on Sept. 27, 1947. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2008.

She was a 1938 graduate of the former Plain Grove High School.Rose was first employed at the Penn Grove Hotel and later at United Engineering during World War II as an ammunition inspector. She would later become the co-owner of New Castle Fruit and Produce Co. with her husband, James, for 24 years. She was a member of St. Mary Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish.

Surviving her are nieces and nephews, Geraldine and John Fulena of New Castle, Lillian and James DeLoia of Ellwood City, Nicolas and Mary Lou Rico of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Robert and Sunny Demofonte of Sharpsville, Steven and Melanie Demofonte of New Castle, Jeff and Elizabeth Demofonte of Charlotte, N.C., and Phillip and Donna Battista of New Castle. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Demofonte; and two sisters, Mary Rico and Agnes Ianotta.

Calling hours are today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home amd Crematory, 111 W. Falls St.A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow for St. Mary Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Victor J. Molka Jr., pastor.Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum in St. Mary Cemetery.Friends may send condolences by visiting sign the guestbook at
