Charles Carlin Jr.
Richmond, Ind.-Charles "Lefty" Carlin Jr., age 84, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 22,2010, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born March 7, 1926, in Milton, Ind., to Charles Sr. and Laura Vance Carlin.
Charles served in the U.S. Army 26th Infantry during World War II where he received the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievements in ground operations against the enemy. He also received the Purple Heart. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for Centerville Schools. Charles retired from Richmond State Hospital after 27 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Wanda lee Carlin of Richmond; four sons, Gary (Bonzetta) Carlin of Richmond, Terry Carlin of Abington, Ronnie (Pam) Carlin of Alabama, and Danny Carlin of Richmond; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother and sister.
Visitation for Charles Carlin Jr. will be from noon-2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday Sept. 27, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Riden officiating. Burial will be in Abington Cemetery.
