MERVIN L. 'SLIM' KITTLESON
Mervin L. "Slim" Kittleson, 82, of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb.
Born Nov. 10, 1921, in Creston, he was the son of Mylo L. and Lillie Mae (Johnson) Kittleson. He married Edythe O. Hall on Nov. 25, 1945, in Creston.
Mervin was formerly employed by Wurlitzer Piano Mfg. in DeKalb for several years before he became the owner and operator of Bross & Kittleson Standard Service Station in DeKalb for 33 years, he also worked at NIU for seven years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, DeKalb Elks 765, the Tebala Shrine, American Legion Post 66 and Indian Oaks Country Club, and a former member of the Sons of Norway.
He is survived by his two daughters, Kayla Jo Kittleson and Mary Lou (Paul) Letheby, both of DeKalb; two grandchildren, Justin Letheby of DeKalb and Shannon Letheby of Chicago; two sisters, Betty (James) Arends of DeKalb and Marilyn (Ralph) Magnuson of Sycamore; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edythe, in 1984; a daughter, Corinne; and his parents.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb, with the Rev. Marilyn G. Hanson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in rural Lee. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
