ARTHUR, Lowell J. "Art" passed away January 14, 2006. Having just returned from a cruise of the Mexican Riviera, he fell ill on December 12th.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Miriam Jeannette "Ann" Arthur and his son Jay (Shirley).
Born on a farm in central Illinois on July 25, 1923, Lowell moved to Fairborn, Ohio in 1941. He maintained P-47 and B-17 aircraft at Wright Patterson Field during WWII. Ann and Art were married in the fall of 1944 and moved to Tucson, AZ for his health. Son, Jay, was born in 1951.
An avid outdoorsman, family vacations were often spent fishing in the White Mountains of Arizona. While Ann always called him Lowell J, his coworkers at Buxton-Smith knew him as Art. He managed the office for over 20 years and retired in 1986.
Always a craftsman, he dabbled in ceramic art, Kachina dolls, and he carved the front door of the family home. As a silversmith, he mastered the art of inlay. He made angel pins, bracelets and other pieces for the DeGrazia gallery.
A memorial service will be held February 3, 2006 at 1000 a.m. at the Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway Blvd. In lieu of flowers please send donations to one of Pa's favorite places the Reid Park Zoo, 1100 S. Randolph Way, Tucson 85716.
