PONTIAC - Loren Joseph Alltop, 85, of 4982 Cole Drive East, Mobile, Ala., formerly of Pontiac, died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 17, 1998) at the University of Southern Alabama Medical Center, Mobile, Ala. He had been in failing health for one year.
There will be a private family service at Saturday at Duffy Funeral Home, Pontiac, the Rev. Brad Brault officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Pontiac. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or to Lakefront Assisted Living, 3543 Countrywood Court, Mobile, Ala., 36695.
Mr. Alltop was born Feb. 12, 1912, at Pontiac, the son of Delbert and Nicie Hamilton Alltop. He married Fletta Lucille Shoemaker on Sept. 16, 1937, in Chicago. She died Dec. 5, 1979.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Harder of Pontiac and Betty Jo Harder of Mobile, Ala.; five brothers, Edward Alltop, Donald Alltop, Gale Alltop, Glen Alltop and Delbert Alltop, all of Pontiac; two sisters, Esther Ide of Pontiac and Velma Matter of Minonk; 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
Mr. Alltop went to school in rural Pontiac. He worked as a deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff Department from 1952 to 1958 and was Livingston County Sheriff from 1958 to 1961. He served as investigator for the Livingston County State's Attorney until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Pontiac and the Sheriff's Association.
