Alex Ayotte was born in Quebec, moved to Wells, Vermont as a child after his parents died. He married Caroline Woods in 1858 in Wells VT. They had three children, Jessie, Effie and Leon. He served in the Civil War in Co. C 2nd NY Inf. and Co. I 93rd NY Inf. His wife died in 1876, and his daughter Jeasie died in 1879. He moved to Fort Buford, Dakota Territory and served as Blacksmith. In 1880 he married Jenny Brown of Park Ridge, IL. They built a ranch in Ridgelawn, Montana Territory, where he served as Deputy US Marshall. Alex and Jenny had two daughters, Ellen and Ethel.Due to poor health they returned to Jenny's hometown, Park Ridge, where Alex died 1892.
