The Rev. Gordon C. Abernathie Sr., 64, of 503 N. 22nd St., Murphysboro, a former school teacher and present pastor of the Boskydell Church, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1975, in St. Joseph Hospital at Murphysboro of an apparent heart attack.

He retired in June after 16 years of teaching in the Murphysboro Unit School District
186. He also had been a principal at Chaffee, Mo., a teacher and coach at Franklin Elementary School in Cape Girardeau, and a junior high school social studies teacher in Mattoon.

He was the present pastor of the Boskydell Church, and also had served at the Caney Fork Baptist Church in Millersville, Mo., the Clarksville Baptist church in Clarksville, the Northside Baptist Church in Charleston, and the Fairview Christian Church in Murphysboro.

The Rev. Abernathie was born Dec. 14, 1911, in McClure, to Edward and Minnie Sams Abernathie. He married Jessie M. Seabaugh, May 23, 1938, in Benton, Mo.

Survivors are his wife; a son, Dr. Gordon Jr., an Air Force lieutenant; daughters, Sonja
Adkerson of Edwardsville and Jan Fletcher of Murphysboro; brothers, William
of Springfield and Howard of Cape Girardeau; sisters, Alta Lollar of Murphysboro and Grace Abernathie of Cape Girardeau; and three grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.
