Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2015, in Jacobs Cemetery, Moweaqua. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00, prior to service time, in Seitz Funeral Home, Moweaqua. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Cancer Care.
Steve was born into a Mennonite family, July 23, 1943, in Hutchinson, KS, the son of Orville F. and Laura L. (Dick) Bickel. He married Mary Jo Stuckenschneider. He later married Valerie O’Neill.
Steve lived in Wichita, KS, where he attended Chisholm Trail Grade School, Valley Center High School and Wichita State University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He then moved to St. Louis, MO, and graduated from Washington University. Steve began a medical testing laboratory in the St. Louis area, moving his business to Decatur, IL after 21 years. His business in Decatur expanded to over 40 employees for 34 years.
Steve and Valerie moved to a small farm West of Moweaqua, where his hobbies included fishing, hunting, cooking and raising Miniature Donkeys. He was an active pilot for many years and enjoyed motorcycles and hot rods.
Surviving are Valerie; son, Jeffrey (Lisa) Bickel; daughter, Christine (Greg) Eilerman; step-son, Luke O’Neill; step-daughter, Sarah O’Neill; grandchildren: Spencer, Emma, and Jack Bickel and Katie and Megan Eilerman; brothers, Frank D. Bickel and Warren F. Bickel; and sister, Janette Gonzales.
Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Bonnie K. Niquette.
