KANSAS CITY, Mo. - J. Mitchell "Mitch" Brackney, 41, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Lincoln, died at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 1, 1968, in Chicago Heights, the son of James and Sally Heinzel Brackney. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Charlotte Heinzel and paternal grandparents, Albert James Brackney and Selma Brackney.
He is survived by his father, James (Karen) Brackney of Lincoln; mother, Sally Heinzel Brackney of Springfield; a son, Jackson Brackney of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Lauren Brackney of Kansas City, Mo; former wife, Ruth Brackney of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Britta Brackney of Springfield; a brother, Brain (Debbie) Brackney of Lincoln; a nephew, Ben Brackney of Lincoln; two nieces, Rylie and Rachel Brackney of Lincoln; a uncle, Lindsey Heinzel of Springfield; and an aunt, Nancy Pineda of Lincoln.
Mitch was a graphic designer. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Kansas City, Mo. He graduated from Lincoln Community High School and Illinois State University. He coached his son's baseball, basketball and football games and was also an usher at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Private graveside services will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lincoln, with Father Thomas Shaw officiating. There will be no visitation.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Grade School in Kansas City, Mo.
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
