Rosetta Amalia Mathilda Beuttel Balster, 98, Rural Colete, died at about 10:45 at the home of her son Herman Balster.
Rosetta was born 12 September, 1824 in Marz, Hanover, Germany. At the age of Two weeks she was brought to the Lord in Holy Baptism and after due instruction in the Christian Faith according to the institution of the Lutheran Church she was confirmed in 1839. The vow then given she thought of throughout the remainder of her life and was ever true to her Master, serving Him with simplicity of faith and wholeness of Heart.
In 1854 she was united in marriage to Dietrich Balster. This union was blessed with four children, all whom remain to mourn the loss of their beloved mother. They are Carl, Herman, Margaret and Marie.
In the spring of 1858 she with her husband and one child came to America, coming to Dixon, Lee county IL. and later to hopkins twp. Whiteside county and finally settling in Genessee twp. Her Husband and Father of her children was called into the life beyond in May, 1888. From that time she has resided in the home of her son Herman until the day she joined her beloved Dietrich.
The Lord surely has been with our dear departed. Born nearly a century ago she has seen the development of the times and the progress of people. A life of such length is not without its specific experiences, its joys and sorrows. She was of a strong nature and many was the time that her children thought they would soon have to lose her. No one thought that she would live through her sixties and yet the Lord has given her such a long life of Ninety Eight Years Ten months and Twenty One Days. The burden of old age is not an easy one. there is many a dark and lonesome hour, when hands must lay idle and one begins to feel that is only there to be taken care of and of no advantage to any one and thus the hours and minutes will drag along and become burdensome. Ah what if one did not know his God and did not know that He was near at all times. Then such a life is empty and wholly deprived of its beauty. But when one lives in God he still has a mission to fill though his hands may lie idle and though his earthly work may be done, In many times that I have occasion to visit with the departed mother, I admired her trust in her God and her faith in her Saviour and though she expressed her desire to go Home yet she was willing to wait for the call when the Lord would come and take her Home. She loved the Word of God and was regular in attendance of the services as long as she was able to attend, but of late years she could not go to the House of her God, but as long as her eyesight permitted she would read and meditate for herself and was thankful for every word of comfort and strength that was brought to her.
About a year ago she seemed to fall away faster and to all more than usual and about ten weeks ago other aliments were added to her infirmities. But she was ready and willing to follow the call of her Master. She found new strength and support in the Lord's Supper which she received two weeks ago and thus we may be assured that the Lord had given her, after the many years of earthly, a blessed end and the happiness of Heavenly Eternal Life.
Besides her four children she leaves her beloved 31 Grandchildren and 44 Great-Grandchildren and one Great-Great-Grandchild to mourn her death.
May her memory be ever dear to us and her Christian spirit and child-like faith be an example that we all strive to follow and emulate, hoping and trusting in the Lord has great things in store for us also. May she now Rest In Peace and the Heavenly Light Shine upon Her.
