Gabriel F. Raymond was a farmer who came from New York state to Illinois in 1858. He settled first in Birmingham Township in Schuyler County where he owned 80 acres. He moved to McDonough County, Illinois in 1869 where he purchased 80 acres and settled on section 21, Bethel township. He was born in Orange county, New York, August 11, 1834, and was a son of Uriah and Margaret (Decker) Raymond. He received a common school education, and resided with his parents till 22 years of age. He was married February 19, 1858, to Sarah A. McMurtry, a native of New York state. They had five children, Sarah A., Margaret A., John U., Gabriel J. and Mary C.

Politically Mr. Raymond was an independent. He held the office of justice of the peace. He was a member of the United Brethren church.

His tombstone is shared with that of his wife, Sarah. Please see her entry for a photo of that stone.
