John B. Bollman, Cedarville
John B. Bollman, 76, passed away at 10 o'clock Wednesday night at his home in Cedarville following a three-months' illness. During the last two weeks he had incurred much suffering.
John Bollman was born in Cedarville May 15, 1863, on the same day that his father was killed in the battle of Champion Hill, Miss., while he was serving with Company G. 93d regiment of the union forces. Mr. Bollman was the oldest continuous resident of Cedarville having lived with the exception of a few months in the same house in which he was born. He is survived by two sons, Roy, of Lena and Ray, of Freeport and one daughter, Pauline, who resides at home. There are also two grandchildren, Peter John Bollman and Sally Jo Bollman, and two nephews, John, of St. Paul, and Frank, of Milwaukee. Mrs. Bollman died Nov. 29, 1938.
For 36 years Mr. Bollman conducted a general merchandise store in Cedarville. He disposed of this business the first of this year. For the last nine years he and his son, Ray, have conducted the Cherry Avenue Grocery store in Freeport. Mr. Bollman bing affiliated with this business up to the time of his death. He served as postmaster of Cedarville for 18 years and also served terms as president of the villiage board, the school board and the cemetery association in that town.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home in Cedarville and from the Methodist church at 2:30. Rev. Lois E. McKeown, of the Cedarville church and Rev. Aubrey P. White, of Freeport First Baptist church will officiate. Interment will be made in the Oak Knoll division of Cedarville cemetery.
