ROCK FALLS Claude T. "Pete" Akers, 67, of Rock Falls. died Friday. Sept. 9, 2011, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. Pete was a machinist at Illinois Forge for 32 years, retiring in 2000.
He was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Sterling, a son of Charles and Betty Jean (Williams) Akers. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Regan on Nov. 28, 1963, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, Rock Falls, and was a third-degree knight with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.
Pete also was a professional singer, songwriter and guitar player. His sense of humor and compassion for his wife and children will be fondly missed. His deep love for family was shown his love for his heritage.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen of Rock Falls; two daughters, Sheila (Wendy Eckel) Akers; and Rebecca (Glenn) Retherford; a son, Claude M. (Georgianna) Akers; sisters Rosemary (Bill) Matthews, and Theresa (Michael Perris) Akers; a brother, Charles (Pam) Akers; and his grandchildren, Jeremy, Sarah, Bryan and Dakota Akers.

Pete was preceded in death his parents; and sisters Wilmetta Shawyer, Lola Wessels, Dorothy Bennett and Eugena Akers.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m., followed the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., Thursday at St. Andrew Catholic Church, with the Rev. Louis Tosto officiating. Arrangements were completed McDonald Funeral Homes.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
