Services for Gladys M. Hunt White, 78, of 612 West 1st Ave., Milan, are 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hodgson Funeral Home, Ltd., Rock Island, and 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she was a member. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a wake service at 5. Memorials may be made to Emergency Pregnancy Service of the Quad Cities or the Council of Native Americans.
Mrs. White died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1992, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
The former Gladys Ague was born Feb. 19, 1914, in Monroe, Wis., the daughter of Thomas and Nellie VanHorn Stover. She married Albert Hunt in 1936, in Rock Island. He died in 1964. She married Reginald White in 1978, in Rock Island.
She had been a staff member, counselor and a social action director at Newman Center, Western Illinois University, Macomb. Before that, she helped open the inhalation therapy department at Illini Hospital, Silvis, and also worked in medical records there. Earlier, she had been a waitress at Hunter's Club, Rock Island.
She was very active in social justice groups, including United Farm Workers of America and Birthright. She helped to establish a chapter of Birthright in Macomb. She enjoyed plants, sewing, painting and playing cards.
Survivors include the widower; daughters, Nancy Ewoldt, Davenport, Sally Leal, Aurora, Ill., Pamela Hunt, Spokane, Wash., and Jennifer Barnett, Nashville, Tenn.; sons, Jimmy Hunt, Chicago, and Steven Hunt, Gainesville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; five great grand children; and a brother, Bill Ague, Roswell, N.M.
