John Lawrence Choate, Sr., 66, died at his home in Cora Wednesday after an illness of about one week.
He was born in Jackson county, and had lived in this area all his life. He was engaged in farming.
He was married in 1919 to Lelia Smith, who survives. He also leaves four sons, Charles of East St. Louis, Bob of Chester, and Harold and Jack, both of Cora; two daughters, Eula Mae Choate of Murphysboro, and Ruby Jewel Choate of Cora; three brothers, Claude and Andy Choate of Cora, and Clarence Choate of Welge and two sisters, Maude Foncree of Cora, and Emma Tucker of Pine Bluff, Ark. Two sons, George and John L., Jr., preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Chester until the hour of services. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Lee Pope Ward, of the First Presbyterian church of Murphysboro. officiating. Burial will be in the Buchanan cemetery at Cora.
