Child of Henry Thomas Bridger & Sarah Jane McLaughlin
MRS MARTHA AMY CASH
Martha Amy Bridger, daughter of the late Henry T and Sarah Bridger, was born in Suez township, Mercer County, Illinois, October 8, 1868.
Most of her early life was spent in the community where she was born, and she received her education in the rural schools of Suez township, and also attended the Geneseo Academy at Geneseo, Illinois.
She was united in marriage May 30, 1892, to William A Cash at Aledo, Ill., and went to housekeeping on a farm at Suez. Except for a few years residence at Murdo, S.D. and at Mexico, Mo., their married life was spent in Greene and Suez townships.
To this union six children were born, Fred M. of Alexis; George B who died in infancy; Clair E of Macomb; Mrs Meryle Tary and Mrs Sarah Swanson of Viola; and Leo A Cash of Galesburg.
The husband and father preceded her in death five years ago. Besides the five children there are left to mourn her loss, one sister, Mrs Edna McKnight of Alexis, Ill., 11 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
When a young girl she united with the Methodist church in Suez township, and she continued to make this denomination her church home in the different communities where she lived.
Since the death of her husband she made her home with her children. For the past 14 months she had been ill with heart trouble and complications. Three months ago she was brought from the home of her son Fred to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mac Tary in Viola, and the two daughters gave her every care until the end which came at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 1938, at the age of 69 years, 6 months, and 20 days.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church of Viola, in charge of Rev O D Slater of Alexis, assisted by Rev C H Hoffmire of Viola. The service of song was the hymn "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" by a quartet, Miss Hazel Robbins, Mrs Belle Johnston, Messrs William E Nesbitt and Dean Holdsworth, with Miss Ruth Robbins as accompanist.
Internment was in the Bridger cemetery south of Viola. Pallbearers were William O'Brian, L R Sims, Fred McLaughlin and Bert McLaughlin.
