Mrs. Sophie Ackmann, nee Liepitz, was born on a farm near Bloomingdale March 18, 1862, where she spent her life up to the time of her marriage to Henry Ackmann Feb. 28, 1884, when they moved to a farm near Waverly, Iowa, where they lived 8 years, when Mr. Ackmann died Feb. 25, 1892. The widow, with three little boys, one a babe of 6 months, came back to her old home town and brought up the family. One son died at the age of 13 [Leo Ackmann]. The other two lived to be able to care for their mother and in a way repay her for the many years of hard work spent for them.
Never very robust, she early felt the weight of years, and for 12 weeks had been confined to her bed, unable to help herself. She passed peacefully to her reward Sunday about 10 o'clock p.m. at the home of her son, Edward, on Oak Street.
The funeral was held Thursday at 1 o'clock at the house and at 2 o'clock at St. Paul's Evangelical church, Bloomingdale, Rev. Plassman conducting the service.
The pall bearers were all old friends and neighbors, Messrs. Henry Grupe, John Pauling, Chas. Leiseberg, Wm. Randecker, Chris.
Burial at Bloomingdale cemetery. Besides her children, Mrs. Ackman is survived by 3 brothers, Wm. Liepitz in Kansas, George in Itasca, and Gustav in Minnesota; also one sister, Mrs. Bertha Dohl in Kansas.
