Jesse and Mary Rush were among the very earliest settlers in marshy and densely forested Elkhart County, IN, arriving from Ohio in May of 1826. Two years later Mary gave birth to twins in the Rush family's log hut. First born was Isaiah followed shortly by the birth of Margery. Isaiah is generally accepted as the first white settler's baby born in the entirety of Elkhart County, followed by Margery as the second.
Margery Rush married Alfred Farr 04 Jun 1846 in Elkhart County. In 1852, they moved to Kankakee County, IL where they farmed their remaining years.
By 1900, Margery had given birth to eleven children of whom five were yet alive in that year. Known children: Belinda, Mary Alice, Ella Jane, Willis, Nettie, Guy, Strickland, and Ida.
