Birth: Jun. 16, 1802
Death: Jul. 6, 1896

Aged 94 yrs. 20 ds.
Monday morning the venerable Mrs. Robert Cassell died at her home on South Main Street. Aunt Polly, as she was better known, was born near Versailles, Scott County, Kentucky, June 16, 1802, and her maiden name was Mary Royster. January 30, 1823 she was married to Robert Cassell, and seven years later the young pair removed to this county where they resided the remainder of their lives--part of the time in town and part in the country on a farm. Mrs. Cassell joined the Christian church in 1829, and on removing here united with her husband and a few other brave souls in forming the Christian church of this city, and now that she has gone to her reward the aged D. Pat Henderson is the only survivor of the little band of charter members. She was the mother of ten children, three of whom died in infancy. Four others have passed away: Mrs. Robert Hagerty, Mrs. John Corrington, Mrs. Fleming, and William. There are remaining Robert of Chicago, Mrs. Alexander and Miss Susan. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Katherine Anderson and two brothers, F. M. Springer, of this city, and George Springer, of Parsons, Kas. Her husband died July 7, 1886. Mrs. Cassell was a woman of lovely character, and even in her old age didn't lose her vivacity of spirits and interest in all that was going on about her. In the church she was a useful member as long as she was able to get about. Her faith in Christ was unbounded and she loved all His children. In her family she was all devotion and was always an excellent neighbor. Her daughter, Miss Susan, has tenderly watched over her during all the years gone by and has the blessed recollection of faithful service to a loving mother."
(clipping of the obituary was probably from the local Jacksonville, IL newspaper. It was found by Greg Dalton in a Johnson/Sanders family bible in his possession.)
