Memorial services for Ira and Lois Adams will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is 9 - 10:45 at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 103 SW Third Street, Aledo. Memorials may be made to the Adams Memorial Fund.
Mr. Adams was born February 10, 1919 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of George Arthur and Grace Ravina Tubbs Adams. He married Lois Diehl on September 19, 1946 in Aledo. She died on June 17, 2007. Ira farmed with his father in Griffith near New Windsor, IL until 1950. Then he farmed in Sherrard, IL from 1950 to 1970 with his wife Lois. Then they moved to a farm in Illinois City, IL. They retired from farming in 1975 moving to Aledo, IL. Ira worked at Aledo Rehab and Health Care as a maintenance man for some time during retirement and also at the old Thedes store for a short time. They moved to Joy, IL in May 2005.
Mr. Adams served in World War II February 14, 1942 to December 23, 1945. Orders for Award of the Purple Heart (dated 8 Feb. 1945) for wounds received on 10 Dec. 1944. Other Awards and Decorations include: Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon 1944; American Theater Ribbon, HQ USF IB Theater 1945; World War II Victory Metal, HQ USF IB Theater 1945; China War Memorial Badge and Ribbon HQ USF China Theater 1945 and Good Conduct Medal 1943. Battle participation include: China Campaign HQ CASC2, December 1944; China Offensive RE CT 1945; 3 Overseas Service Bars from 1 Jan. 1944 to 30 June 1945; Calcutta, India and Vicinity 16 March to 17 March 1944; Served 16th Airways Detachment, Davis-Monthan Field, Tucson, AZ.
Ira loved hunting, fishing, mowing yards for the elderly after retirement with his wife Lois, and helping out friends and neighbors. Also,he loved playing guitar, rebuilding lawnmowers and clocks.
