Dean Arlan Baier, age 74, of Hoople, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Unity Medical Center of Grafton, ND.

Dean Arlan Baier was born May 29, 1936 in Walhalla, ND, the son of Gladys (Dalzell) and the late Daniel Baier. He lived in the Glasston area and graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1954. In 1959, he moved to Grafton and worked on area farms.

Dean was united in marriage to Karen Schultz on June 16, 1968 in Grafton. The couple made their home in Grafton until 1972 when they moved to the Hoople area. He worked for Lee Augustin of Crystal, ND for 26 years until his retirement in October 2010.

Dean enjoyed reading, cooking, hunting, fishing and gardening. He also loved farm work, making wood crafts and playing pinochle with family and friends.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Hoople, ND, the Northeast North Dakota Pioneer Machinery Association and was a lifetime member of the Walsh County Gun Club.

Dean is survived by his wife, Karen, Hoople, ND; son, Keith Baier, St. Thomas, ND; daughter, Kelley (Kenn Williamson) Ingebretson, Stillwell, KS; mother, Gladys Baier, Grafton, ND; sister, Marlene (Raymond) Lundberg, Republic, MI. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded death by his father, sister, Karen (Martin) Glas, and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church, Hoople, ND. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Tollefson Funeral Home of Grafton. Friends may also call at the church on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Bruce Cemetery, Cavalier, ND.
