Linda S. Baumert, age 49, of North Bend, NE, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at North Bend, NE.
She was born February 13, 1962 at West Point, NE to Stanley and Ione (Hasemann) Popken. She grew up at Uehling, NE and graduated Logan View High School in 1980. She received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1983.
Linda Popken married Kurt Baumert on October 19, 1984 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Uehling. They moved to North Bend and Linda taught 1st grade at Schuyler Elementary for 27 years.
She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church at North Bend and was active in the church choir. She was also a member of the P.E.O. at North Bend.
Survivors include her husband – Kurt Baumert of North Bend; son – Tyler Baumert of Lincoln; daughters – Ashley and husband Broc Blanchard of West Des Moines, IA, Kelly Baumert of Lincoln, NE, and Amy Baumert of North Bend, NE; parents – Stanley and Ione Popken of Fremont, NE; brother – David and wife Michelle Popken of Boca Raton, FL; sisters – Barb and husband Darrell Sagehorn of Dallas, TX and Nancy and husband Jack Hank of San Antonio, TX.
She is preceded in death by: grandparents; and 2 uncles.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 14, 2011 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend, NE. Father Donald M. Cleary will officiate. Family will receive friends on Friday, May 13th from 5-7 P.M. with a Rosary/Vigil Service to follow at 7:00 P.M., all at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Ridgley, near Scribner, NE..

A 49-year-old North Bend woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday west of North Bend.
Dodge County Sheriff Steve Hespen said Linda Baumert was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident about 2 1/2 miles west of North Bend on U.S. Highway 30.
Hespen said Baumert was traveling east on the highway when she lost control of her 2000 Ford Taurus and crossed the center line where she was struck by a 1988 Nissan Sentra driven by 28-year-old Mario Rivera of Schuyler.
A witness at the scene said heavy rain and strong winds created poor visibility at the time of the accident, Hespen said.
Rivera was transported to Fremont Area Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Two passengers in Rivera's vehicle - 33-year-old Socorro Marino and 31-year-old Wesley Rios Roman, both of Schuyler - were transported to FAMC and transferred to Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.
Hespen said rescue personnel from North Bend, Schuyler, Morse Bluff and Fremont assisted at the scene, along with the Saunders County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.
