Mrs. Andersen, Washington, Dies Widow of Niels Andersen Dies at 71; Five Children Survive Her Mrs. Karen Andersen, 71, widow of Niels Andersen, died last Tuesday night at Washington, Nebraska, following a short illness. Since the death of her husband three and a half years also, Mrs. Andersen had resided with her children, lately with a daughter, Mrs. Carrie Olsen.
Funeral services were conducted last Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Home, followed by rites at 2 p.m. at the Washington church. The Rev. P.C. Jensen, Lutheran pastor for Kennard and Washington, officiated and interment followed in Prairie View cemetery.
Mrs. Andersen was born November 28, 1868, at Hadstrup, Sjaelland, Denmark, and came to the United States in 1887, coming directly to Washington county. She was married the same year to Mr. Andersen, whom she had known in Denmark, and they spent their entire wedded life farming near Washington.
Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Andersen, one dying in infancy. Surviving Mrs. Andersen are Mrs. Elvina Nelsen, Mrs. Carrie Olsen, Andrew, James and Sophus Andersen, all of the Washington vicinity. There are seven surviving grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Baptized and confirmed as a member of the Danish Lutheran faith while residing in her native Denmark, Mrs. Andersen remained a member of that denomination all her life.
