This community was saddened by the news of the death of Mrs. George Berger at her home near Dannebrog, last Saturday.
Minnie Newell was born at Boscabell, Wisconsin, June 11th, 1862.
While she was still a child her parents moved to Independence, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.
She was married to George Berger April 6, 1879. They lived at Red Oak, Iowa, for one year, when they moved to a homestead four miles west of Palmer. Later they moved to the Jeff McCormick place 4 1/2 miles southwest of Palmer, where they resided for many years.
Mrs. Berger was an active worker in the Gage Valley Sunday school and one of the most active and devout members of the Methodist Church at that place.
Seventeen years ago they moved to a farm near Dannebrog, where they have since resided.
The funeral was held Monday, from the home, Rev. Bookhouse, of the Baptist Church, officiating.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, two daughters, Mrs. C. Fitzpatrick, of this town, and Mrs. Pearl Thomas of Boelus, two sons, Newell, of Boelus, and Preston, who lives with his father, also six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
She ran the journey of her life in 62 years, 2 months and 19 days. It is a path marked with deeds of kindness and cheer. Flowers, not thorns, sunshine, not shadow, did she scatter everywhere. Truth was the inspriation of her life, and by kindness she exemplified it's worth.
She was a kind neighbor, a devoted mother and a true friend. Who can be more?
