She received her education in Garfield County, where she grew to womanhood and became a member of the Congregational Church in Burwell.
On June 10, 1916, she was united in marriage to Carlino Appelt at Ord, Nebraska. After their marriage they made their home on a farm near Burwell, Nebraska, where this union was blessed with eight children, five daughters and three sons.
In 1941, they moved to Keya Paha County and remained in the county on a farm ten miles west of Springview until the time of her death.
Mrs. Appelt’s great interest for her flowers and plants brought happiness not only to her own life but to those about her. Her keen sense of humor endeared her to the hearts of her family and friends. She gained great pleasure in her tireless efforts of outdoor labors until her unexpected illness in March. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always willing to sacrifice for others.
She is survived by her husband, Carlino; children Paul, Jack and James of Ainsworth, Shirley (Mrs. Harry Peddicord) of Alliance, Ohio; Betty (Mrs. Dwight Evans) of Denver Colorado, Ethel Doris (Mrs. Richard Pinoski) of Los Angeles, California, Mary Lou (Mrs. Albert Davis) of Gregory, South Dakota, and Alberta (Mrs. Dean Lewis) of Springview, Nebraska; twenty grandchildren; two brothers Harry Hughes of Burwell, Nebraska and Charles Hughes of Grand Island, Nebraska; three sisters Dove (Mrs. Irving McKinley) of Omaha, Nebraska, Agnes (Mrs. Sidney Goodfellow) of Holdrege; Ruby (Mrs. Charles Felix) of Seattle Washington; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
