Evelyn Guinn Austin, age 77, of Holly Street, Hudson, died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born October 19, 1935 in Avery County to the late William Robert and Gladys Guinn Winters. At the age of five, Evelyn was adopted by the late Stella F. Whitehead. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Joe Bill Austin; one son, Carol Gene Graham; one brother, Vernard Ralph Guinn; and one sister, Patricia Surcey.
Mrs. Austin was retired from Shuford Mills. She attended Crossroads Community Church, where she was very active in the food ministry.
Survivors include one son, Terry Lee Graham and wife Deborah of Lincolnton; one daughter, Mrs. Regina Wolfe and husband, Robert of Hudson; one step-son, Terry Lee Austin and wife Betty of Lake City, Florida; and two step-daughters, Ms. Judy Karen Austin and Ms. Linda Cullpepper, both of Hudson; two brothers, Robert Winters of Lenoir and John Winters of Elk Park; sister, Shirley Grindstaff; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Rick Bowman. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens of Lenoir.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
