Agnes Hartman was the daughter of Sophia Hartman. Sophia and her husband were born in Germany.
She was the wife of Reuel Sparks Alford, the son of Aaron Alford and Susan Miller. He was named after his grandfather.
Reuel was born in Sarpy County, Nebraska. His parents moved to Henry County, Illinois, in the late 1860s. His father was a druggist in the town of Wenona. His sister Angie was born in Wenona in 1869.
Reuel's father died from stomach complications in 1871 in Omaha, Douglas Co, NE. The family returned to Sarpy County.
Reuel married Agnes Hartman in Sarpy County in 1893. They had 3 sons: Clark born 1893 (43565319), Ernest born 1895, and Reuel Jr born 1898. Ernest died in 1896 at the age of 6 months.
By 1900 Reuel and family had moved to Douglas County, Colorado. Reuel died in Colorado in 1908 at the age of 44 years. Agnes continued to live in Colorado. After the death of her father-in-law, her mother-in-law Susan moved in with them and eventually moved to her own home, taking in boarders. Agnes mother, Sophia Hartman, also moved to Colorado.
Both her mother and mother-in-law died in Colorado in 1923. Son Reuel married and stayed in Colorado.

Mrs. Ruel Alford, School Head, Dies
The body of Mrs. Reuel Alford, Castle Rock, Colo., school principal, will be brought to Papillion and lie in state at the Claire funeral home until 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery.
Mrs. Alford formerly lived in Papillion and Gretna. She is survived by two sons, Clark, of Colorado Agricultural college, and Reuel, of New Jersey; and one sister, Mrs. Elsie Cannon of Chicago.
